La Jolla Alta is mostly planned residential developments with custom homes on large, private lots below the southern slope of Mt. Soledad.  Many La Jolla Alta homes have ocean and bay views. Planned communities have pools, tennis courts and clubhouses. There are a number of gated communities in La Jolla Alta, both condominium complexes and single-family homes on small cul-de-sacs.

La Jolla
Farms, with its panoramic Pacific and city skyline views, is one of La Jolla's most prestigious neighborhoods. La Jolla Mesa is on the southern slope of Mount Soledad affording spectacular views of the ocean, Mission Bay, and the San Diego city skyline. Most of the homes in La Jolla Mesa were built 30 or 40 years ago and many of them have been updated through the years.
