About La Jolla
California Homes
La
Jolla Shores is one of San Diego’s most wonderful beaches.
It’s the flattest and safest beach in San Diego and boasts
San Diego’s only beachfront boat launch. One of La Jolla’s
oldest neighborhoods, “The Shores” is home to luxury mansions,
state-of-the-art medical research labs and the Scripps Institute
of Oceanography.
There are large custom-built estates, picturesque beach
cottages and luxury condominiums within walking distance
to the beach, a charming shopping district with specialty
boutiques, superb restaurants and the La Jolla Beach
& Tennis Club.
Homes
in La Jolla are mainly upscale as La Jolla is one of
southern California's most prestigious communities.
Lower
Hermosa, known as the "Street of Dreams," is one of La Jolla’s
nicest neighborhoods. The palm lined streets are wide and
quiet, the cliffs are short and the beaches are sandy. Oceanfront
estate homes are large and stately. Some of San Diego’s
most prominent citizens live in Lower Hermosa.
Mt. Soledad overlooks the city, the bay and the ocean. There
are gated communities and contemporary custom-built homes.
Muirlands is home to many of La Jolla’s grand old estate
homes built in the 1920’s with panoramic views of the Pacific
Ocean. On the western slopes of Mt. Soledad, close to “The
Village” and La Jolla High School, Muirlands’ single-family
homes sit on large, terraced lots with mature landscaping
and ancient trees. Along Old Muirlands Drive, you can still
see the original street gutters built with sea pebbles.
Muirlands
West is a small family-oriented community of traditional,
spacious single-family homes (many of which have been remodeled)
on large lots. As with Muirlands, Muirlands West offers
ocean views and proximity to “The Village" La Jolla High
School.
Soledad South is on the south eastern slopes of Mount Soledad.
Many Soledad South homes have excellent bay, ocean, or San
Diego city skyline views. There is a mix of single-family
homes and condominiums as well as a gated community.
University Towne Center (UTC) is home to a number of high
rise office buildings and newly built condominiums.
Upper
Hermosa is a tranquil, quiet neighborhood with traditional
homes and tree-lined streets.
The Village of La Jolla with its bungalows, cottages
and mansions is quaint, charming, and full of bustling activity
as residents and visitors shop ultra-upscale boutiques and
more than 40 art galleries. Homeowners here walk to shops,
restaurants (more than 100 of California’s finest), and
cultural activities as well as to the beaches and tide pools.
In addition to more traditional homes, The Village also
has a number of luxury condominiums.
Windansea Beach has a number of small, private beaches making
it perfect for beach living. You can find everything from
traditional cottages to newly remodeled homes. Residents
can walk to the beach, the high school and “The Village.”
Waterfront homes take advantage of the many small and private
beaches. The surfing at Windansea is excellent, as is the
body surfing and snorkeling.
Known as a playground of the stars and gathering place of
the rich and famous, La Jolla has the look and feel of a
Mediterranean resort town with contemporary flair. La
Jolla exudes Southern California’s fun-loving spirit.
One of the most elegant, scenic, cosmopolitan and affluent
communities in the world, La Jolla still seems down
to earth. The scenery is spectacular and the people are
just plain nice.
La Jolla has seven miles of rocky, serpentine shoreline,
secluded coves, beaches, ocean caves, exquisite views, small
parks, majestic caves, the renowned cliff-top Coast Walk,
and a fabulous
shopping
district in “The Village" with its cafes, boutiques, coffee
houses, prestigious galleries, and award winning restaurants.
Torrey
Pines State Reserve is one of the largest coastal reserves
in California and features takeoff sites for gliders and
hang gliders. Mt. Soledad's summit offers the best views
of San Diego.
La Jolla Underwater Park, an offshore ecological reserve,
is a favorite of scuba divers.
La Jolla is home to numerous software and bio-tech
companies as well as to renowned institutions, such as the:
