Living in La Jolla California
It’s all about the beach. Well,
okay, it’s about the beach, perfect weather year round,
spectacular sunsets from picture windows in luxury homes
and condominiums, exquisitely fine dining atop ragged
cliffs, extraordinary cultural opportunities, strolling
streets lined with upscale boutiques, and golf courses
to die for. But really, it’s all about the beach!
San Diego is America’s Finest City, and La Jolla
is, literally, California’s jewel located in San Diego’s
crown. Spanish for “the jewel,” La Jolla is home to La
Jolla Cove, one of the most frequently photographed
beaches in the world.
One of the most affluent communities in America,
La Jolla residents enjoy the rugged natural
beauty of Torrey Pines State Park as well as luxury
shopping and gourmet dining along Prospect Street with a
dizzying array of world class art galleries. University
Town Center encompasses one of the finest malls ever
developed.
Beach front property in La Jolla is at a
premium. Depending on how you count, at most there are
30 – 50 detached single family beachfront homes along La
Jolla’s gorgeous coast and, at most, 500 – 600 La Jolla
condominiums. The epitome of La Jolla real estate is
beachfront homes on Camino de la Casa and some isolated
properties with awesome views scattered throughout La
Jolla’s rolling hillsides.
Interspersed throughout La Jolla Village proper
are a number of luxury homes and condominiums. Residents
of the Village enjoy walking to amenities; detached
homes and condominiums in the Village are as much at a
premium as beach front properties.
La Jolla residents are blessed with some of the
finest weather in the world. It is rarely too hot or too
cold. Humidity is very low. Most La Jolla
homes don’t require air conditioners; some don’t
even have heaters. In summer, La Jolla residents enjoy
temperatures in the 70s. It rarely edges up even into
the low 80s, and evenings cool down to the low 60's. It
almost never rains. Winters are more likely to be a bit
rainy, especially in January, but still there are
wonderful, sunny, warm days all year long. The spring is
usually foggy, especially during the morning. Typically,
fog clears in the afternoon.
